About us

To promote the game of indoor bowls amongst the deaf in Christchurch and provide a supportive environment for participants.

The club encourages interaction with other hearing organisations through interclub games and other activities.

How are we Deaf friendly?

We are a Deaf group that plays Lawn Bowls competitions with hearing bowling members.

We do fundraising and receive grants to support us to play interclub games nationally every year in Labour Weekend and be selected to play vs Deaf overseas Lawn Bowls members.

About us

We are volunatry parent group who all has deaf or hearing-impaired children in common.

We run approximately four family based actitivites a year as a chance to come together with others who are facing the same situation as us, and have some fun and friendship.

Our major event is a weekend camp in Hanmer Springs. Our committee is made up of parents of deaf children and representatives from the Ministry of Education and van Asch Deaf Education Centre.

How are we Deaf friendly?

Our families include deaf and hearing parents, however we all have deaf children in common.

We have access to interpreters and try to include every family and their needs as much as possible.

We try to link with Deaf Youth and VADEC residential students.

We are a support group for other families who are on a similar journey with their deaf children, and a chance to discuss issues that are relevant.

CapTel NZ provides a captioned telephone service that allows you to listen and read captions of what the other person says.  CapTel is a phone or computer that connects to the Internet and displays the captions of your conversation.  The New Zealand captioned telephone operator transcribes the other person’s spoken words into text using voice-recognition technology so that you can read what they say as they say it.

Sprint Relay is the provider of CapTel NZ Services through a contract with the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).

How are we Deaf friendly?

A CapTel phone or WebCapTel using a computer and ordinary telephone makes calling businesses, services, family and friends, quick, easy and convenient for the Deaf and hearing impaired community in New Zealand.

 

Captions will appear on the telephone’s or your computer’s display screen automatically for all calls (incoming and outgoing) so you can check to see what is being said.

We provide Club Day once every last Monday of the month for Seniors age from 60 years onwards.

We have internal activities as well as external outings.
